FAQ’s

Vehicles

The models vary, but they have the basics to travel and sleep in the vehicles. Among the common points we have: camper with bed or roof tents with mattress, separate energy system for refrigerator, water pump and lights, external shower, gas stove. Minimum water tank of 50 liters.

You can always add more equipment such as table, chairs, kitchen set and kitchenware, sheets, blanket and pillows.

Our vehicles consume approx. 8-13 kms per liter – depending on speed and terrain. The Hilux and Campervan Explorer model campers use Petroleum/Diesel, some of the SUVs use Petroleum/Diesel and others use 95 octane gasoline. Our advice is to never let the fuel tank level drop by half.

The campers have manual transmission and some of the SUVs have automatic transmission.

The campers have two sources of electrical energy: the vehicle’s battery and a solar system with its own battery for the applications of the camperized part: refrigerator, lights, water pump.

Always take into account the oversized dimensions of a motorhome, especially the height reached with the roof tent in the Campervan Explorer and Hilux RV: 2.50 meters and in the Hilux Motorhome: 2.10 meters high with the pop up camper closed . Consider vehicle height when near trees, overhead wires, parking structures, etc.

The vehicles are delivered with a full tank, with all implements hired and clean. The return must be the same. Regarding cleaning, an extra fee of USD 40.00 will be charged if they are returned excessively dirty.

On Route

A valid driver’s license from any country or an international driver’s license can be used up to 6 months of your arrival in Peru and is accepted when accompanied by a passport valid for a period of 90 days. In the case of Peruvians, the A1 license is accepted.

Police highway checkpoints are common in Peru. They will ask for a valid driver’s license, vehicle ownership card, Mandatory Traffic Accident Insurance (SOAT), Vehicle Technical Inspection Certificate. You should have no problems as long as you can show them the documents mentioned above.

All vehicle controls are easy to use. However, keep in mind that it will probably take you a while to get familiar with them. Take your time to adjust the driver’s seat, mirrors, control lights, radio, etc. All our units have manual transmission. They have a cruising speed of 100 km/h.

Peru is known to be a beautiful place and it can be quite an adventure to drive there. Drive carefully and everything will be fine. Geography, narrow roads, and reckless drivers can push you over the edge if you don’t take precautions.

Some tips to optimize your security:

– Drive only during the day, night can be dangerous on the roads, it is better to be safe at the recommended camping spot and enjoy the camper facilities!

– The Andes can provide long and steep downhill roads, if you use the brakes too much, they can overheat and begin to lose effectiveness, we recommend using the gearbox in 2nd or 3rd gear to maintain a controlled speed.

– The Andes also provide narrow and winding roads, do not overtake the vehicle in front using the wrong road if you cannot see a considerable distance in front, you may face something bigger and there is nowhere to escape.

Yes, in addition we will always be virtually accompanying you and will provide a detailed itinerary. Use your phone’s GPS and you can rely on the iOverlander, Maps.Me and Waze apps for offline overland travel guidance and tips. They are very good and we recommend using them.

Always look for a safe place to park the vehicle, preferably a private parking lot. Unfortunately, there are still some people who will take advantage of any oversight to take something from you.

Basically we can organize the delivery or collection of the units in any city in Peru at an extra ‘pick up’ or ‘drop off’ rate.

100 km/hr on roads. In any case, it is important to always be attentive because there are many sections with lower speeds than the maximum allowed. Be very careful with speed bumps or popularly known as ‘dock breakers’ that are placed near towns.

Turn on the lights, even if it is during the day, it is mandatory to do so.

Do not drive faster than 100 km/h as this is the speed limit on all roads.

Stay 20 meters behind cars and trucks, you never know when they are going to make a strange move!

The climate of Peru is determined by its geography, it is very varied, especially due to the presence of the Andes mountain range. It is important to come prepared for the cold of the heights, as well as the heat of the jungle or inter-Andean valleys.

The national currency (PEN) is the Soles and it is what you must have as cash for current use. American dollars (USD) are also allowed, but this is mostly in large cities and limited establishments. The exchange rate of 1 USD ranges between 3.65 to 3.8 PEN.

Peru has incredible roads and landscapes due to the magnificent Andes that create many ecological floors; You will be amazed at the landscape, the dramatic changes and what you may find on your expedition. It is one of the most diverse countries on the planet. You can find almost every type of climate here, as well as world records for the number of birds, butterflies, freshwater and saltwater fish, orchids, and more. Deserts, endless beaches, snow-capped mountains, enchanted lakes, inter-Andean Condor valleys, cloud forests and tropical jungles that extend to the horizon and divided by the longest and most powerful hydrographic basin in the world, the Amazon. If we had to make a list of other impressive sites and attributes, then we would be obliged to top it with Machu Picchu, one of the 7 new wonders of the world, followed by incredible pre-Inca sites such as the Nazca lines, mud temples of the Chimú Culture, the amazing cultural legacy of the Moche civilization, the wonderful terraced slopes along the Colca Valley, each an extraordinary testimony of people who lived in these lands long before the Incas.

Peru is a land of marked contrasts. Traveling it in a camper means doing it freely and at your own pace, accompanied by the locals virtually or on a guided tour, it is an alternative that will allow you to get the most out of your land trip.
